    Greetings!

Hello! I'm a full time employed blacksmith from the UK. At work I create garden sculpture, gates and railings, general ironwork for the home and garden, and I'm in charge of maintaining our small fleet of power hammers, and other metalworking equipment. In my spare time I enjoy fiddling with machinery, designing and building my own tools, and experimenting with ideas. My video of a Helve Hammer built out of old bicycle parts has attracted a fair amount of attention from the blacksmithing community, and I've since built a vastly superior one using scavenged parts. Videos of both linked bellow. I'm currently slowly working on a vertical milling machine, involving a huge amount of trial and error, and a huge learning curve on my lathe. Looking forward to learning and seeing everyone elses contraptions.

    Hi MofoKaye,

    Welcome!

Nice videos; thanks for sharing them! What sort of striking force are you getting from the bigger hammer?

Let's see some pics of your vertical mill project…

Wow, very nice. I definitely like the second one, but I have to admire that old bicycle parts build.

It packs a good wallop. I can easily hammer 1" square bar into a point in one heat. my problem is I need a solid anvil mass to gain its full potential, and as of yet I haven't found anything suitable. I'll upload some pics of my mill project at some point soon, it's all just bits laying around my workshop at the moment though

Thankyou I cobbled that thing together in a day and people seem to love it. The big one took a lot longer!
