The ACME anvil reminded me of the year I spent in Machine Shop School. Someone in the class did a anvil similar to that one. The angles were carefully cut. The horn required a special jig to cut the right angle. The jig had to be made in the welding department. Usually there was a quid pro quo between students to get something like that done. I remember it was made what appeared like 3/4 inch plate welded at a low angle to another 3/4 inch plate. The anvil was chucked into one of the larger lathes for what seemed like weeks. When the lathe was cutting the angle it was running at a low speed it would try your patience.
