Golf ball handle screwdriver. By not2fast4u2c. 4:03 video:
They make great file handles too, but you have to be careful, a buddy lost an eye a few years back, drilled into an older golf ball, it had some sort of caustic liquid rubber center, it squirted out and up under his safety glasses into his left eye. He went right to ER, but damage was done , he lost all vision in that eye.
So be sure to wear safety glasses or better still , chemical splash proof goggles and a face shield.
That dangerous golf ball must have been very, very old. When I was a teenager, over 50 years ago they had a centre of latex in a rubber bladder upon which were hundreds of random wound turns of a rubber band like strand.
All balls nowadays are made entirely of plastic. Nevertheless ALWAYS wear safety glasses.
My advice is to drill the hole using a lathe so as to centre it perfectly and to drill several mm undersized then press in the shaft.
Still, for a screwdriver I think it's advisable to weld something onto the shaft before pressing it in to prevent unintended rotation of the golf ball.
Great for the ends of drillpress handles etc too.
