Getting heavy stuff off a semi

I don't have any pictures because whenever we've done this we were busy racing the delivery guy's clock.

Imagine, if you will, a delivery semi shows up with a couple of multi-hundred pound items. You did not pay for lift service but the driver is all ready to deploy the lift since us "stupid people" don't have a fork lift.

Take a quality extension ladder and having spouse hold up far end, place enough inside the truck to get the first item on the end.

Pull first item off the pallet onto ladder, spanning the rails.

Rope around item and looped around rung a few times.

Spouse pushes down end of latter, levering up heavy item.

Me in truck lets out the rope at a safe speed sliding the item down the ladder and onto a waiting dolly.

Repeat for the next item, hop off the truck and thank the driver for his time. He's still stunned at how fast and easy we unloaded the truck without his help.

Give us a sturdy ramp and a good come-along and we can unload a couple of tons worth of vacuum pump. Been there, done that.

I once unloaded an entire 48' reefer full of rotten carrots with a long chain and a big elm tree in the middle of a pasture. Chain up a row of skids and pull forward, lengthen chain and repeat.
