    steamingbill's Tools

    G'day from Victoria, Australia

    G'day,

Have just finished a lathe and a drum sander and would like to have a go at a bandsaw and maybe one day, when I grow up, a table saw similar to the Hector Acaveda tablesaw.

Am interested in home made chucks suitable for my shop notes lathe and found this site whilst doing searches on home made chucks.

G'day steamingbill, and welcome to HomemadeTools.net . We'd love to take a look at that lathe and drum sander. Please post pics if you have them.

    Jon,

    Thanks for the message.

The things I've built are already well documented and photographed on other sites and I think they are also already registered on your site.

Here are a couple of links

Pat Hawley's thickness sander - free plans available on this page

A new life for a 1/4HP motor... is going to be a diy lathe! #2: change of plan, now a diy lathe and some parts for it - by FreddyS @ LumberJocks.com ~ woodworking community - plans available in back issues of magazine available on internet

    Regards

    Bill

    Hi Bill,

Thanks for the post. Just to clarify, are you saying that those two tools (thickness sander & DIY lathe) are your builds, or that you've also built the same projects, but not the ones pictured?

If the latter, post some pics of your actual creations and we'll get them added to the database.

    Hi Bill another Victorian here
I'm wondering what grit sandpaper you use for your Thicknesser and did you use the Velcro type

Sorry I missed these last two posts ................

I acquired a range of sandpapers from sandpaperman in west australia and also some velcro - you can find him on google - have sent you a pm as well

Ken, I made the same projects but those two links I posted are not mine - they are better made, better documented and better photographed than I would manage and give a good idea of what the projects look like in case other people want to have a go at them.

The lathe has been particular fun and have made various pens and spindles on it. Its a great and fairly cheap project for a newbie to toolmaking with the added benefit of getting a working wood lathe when you finish it.
