I've noticed some houses with metal roofs losing their color and becoming silver colored in places. Is that just cheap material or do they all do that?

The paint on quality sheet metal should last for 30 years or more. Lighter colors such as white will last longer than the darker greens and reds all of it will get a chalky appearance eventually.
Never try to tell me it can't be done
When I have to paint I use KBS products

I've seen it too. We used to put up metal buildings from Vicwest and a few other vendors. Those companies and the above video all form the metal the same way and it's bugged me for years. They paint the panels THEN they form them. That can't be good for the paint. So you've got huge stress concentrations from the forming tool which has got to damage the coating, plus the paint dries on a flat surface then gets stretched over a radius when the metal gets formed, which puts that part of the paint in permanent tension. This has bugged me for years.
