Forming a 2lb hammer out of Atlantic 33

Part one of 2, the forging of a Atlantic 33 Flutagon hammer... only reason it's not done yet is I had to wait on the handles to get delivered... I really need a lathe lol... but yeah. Flutagon is a treat to work with, especially with its heat treatment.. just dunk it in some water and polish it.... good to go!

Nice! Kinda like the shape. How does Atlantic 33 hold up compared to 1045 or 4140? I normally harden my hammers to around 48-50 rockwell.

I love it.. been using a 2lb one I made much like the one in the video for a few months now, and honestly it holds up better than some of my other hammers. According to metalsmith.org, it achieves 58-62 Rockwell... now if j read that correctly that is using some water jet cooling, so I am likely on the low end of that, just using my slack tub, probably if I had to guess, 55-58... it bounces just less than a bearing.

Thanks. I've got a Refflinghaus anvil so there is no worries about dinting my anvil with a hard hammer and I never cared for the idea of soft hammers. I'll have to give it a try some time.

Yeahman, they swing like a dream... I just sold this hammer because of a previous video... dudes gonna be so happy lol. I'll post part 2 when I get it edited. I intend on including a bit of a bouncy test.
