    Filing Machine Files

Hi Folks. I have been looking for Die Filer Files. I have found a few. They are labeled as #0, #00 , #2 . I assume this is the "Cut" rating.
Could someone please set me straight? Thanks Ken

    Hi.
Try this site, it gives a fairly good description of most files.

    Whoa!
AFAIK these have been hard to come by for the last decade (at least),
and where still available, they seem to sell out fast at pretty hefty pricetags.
Demand is certainly bigger than any remaining NOS supplies.

You don't state what die filer you've got, nor the needed lengths, profiles* or dimensions for its mount,
but at least This Old Tony devised how he reground the tangs (to fit his particular filer) for more common and thus affordable files:
His die filer rants starts at app 14 minutes in:

    Hope this helps!

PS: -Anybody having files or rotary burrs clogged up with aluminium?
Just dunk them in lye solution (OUTDOORS!) 'til clean/ the gassing stops!

If you're set up for electrolytic rust removal, connect them as if you were removing rust from them and it will do the job also, without damaging the files or your skin. Sodium Carbonate, or washing soda, is caustic, but not nearly as strong as Lye. It will also remove paint, oil, and grease.

THANK You, DIYSwede, Tonyg!! There have been some files on Ebone lately, NOS for the most part.

I got taken by one guy. He didn't specify in the description how many files for $22.50. Pics showed at least 3 in each box. Turned out to be the price for one. My bad I guess, buyer beware. Two other guys offer 3 files for $33. Got some of them.

I don't have a Die Filer at present. It's an upcoming project. Unless anyone has one they want to sell at a reasonable price!! I am still looking. Actually Swede the files were easier to find than a machine. I know MLA has a kit but I think it can be duplicated, without castings, for half the price.

Again, Thanks for the info, I appreciate it! Ken

Oh, one other quick question. What length(?) stroke am I looking for? The stout little filer files have about 2 inches of cutting face. Thanks Ken
