I made this fitting to allow me to mount 1/4" lathe tool bits in my boring head. My original application was the desire to "knurl" a flat surface on the end of a square rod. With a 60 degree threading bit installed in the boring head, and the bar held in the milling machine vise, it was an easy job to create parallel grooves. Then the bar was flipped and the procedure repeated. The intersecting grooves that resulted provide a very good imitation of a knurl.
I'm sure the clever people on this forum can think of other neat things to do by mating your lathe tools to your boring head.
