His yellow vest didn't do anything for him standing within the swing zone of the excavator, and none of the workers had on hard hats.

Good thing he did not hit his head on whatever that structure is across the water. Even my dog knows to stay out of the swing zone!!!!

They can preach safety all day long in a classroom, but nothing educates like experience.

I agree! The only thing that vest contributed to was to make it quicker to find him in the water.

Mine site construction site and demolition sites all have safety protocols, which are for the most part just good common sense, unfortunately common sense is not so common anymore, which opened Pandora's box to the implementation of some extreme rules imposed by bureaucratic agencies like OSHA which make no sense at all. Those stem from pencil pushing desk squatters who have never done a real day's work in their lives but have achieved some semblance of self-anointed power.

    Agree 100%!!

I spent well over 35 years dealing with regulators and their regulations in the health and safety side of things. Many rules are in place purely for the optics, or to contribute to lengthening a checklist so that it appears comprehensive... still optical by nature, of course.
