Paul,
Thank you for the excellent documentation on your ER16 collet chuck build for your Unimat. A T.I.R. of .0004” is great on a removable “screw-on” chuck.
Great work!

Hello Paul:
I have a full set of ER-32 collets and decided I wanted a chuck for my Unimat too.
So I bought a Cat40>ER-32 chuck and cut the Cat40 end off:
Then I bored the back of the ER32 section for a new bushing and welded it in:
I clamped the ER32 collet on a trued shaft in the lathe and tapped it M12x1 for the Unimat:
Then with some checking and stoning I had it running true:
Now it is all finished and it is great. I used it to hold wood dowels and the range -1mm really helped.
Some said the chuck would be too large for the Unimat, but it isn't much larger than the 4 jaw chuck.
Good luck! Carl.
Thanks carl blum! We've added your Unimat Collet Chuck to our Workholding category,
as well as to your builder page: carl blum's Homemade Tools. Your receipt:
