What ever happened to teachers who actually used chalk?
If you are going to explain 3 dimensional drawing you need to explain as well the concept of 1st projection angle versus 3rd projection angle. Having a spin box appear on a screen will not do that you must arrive at the proper sequence of calculations then draw projection lines etc, etc.

Never try to tell me it can't be done

I had a geometry teacher who would hold a piece of chalk in each hand sometimes he would draw the lines with his left then do the calculations of the angles with his right. but he always added words with his left hand most ambidextrous person I ever met.
We were always trying to catch him doing something with both hands at the same time.
He taught High school trigonometry as well as middle school geometry. There was never a dull moment in his class because you didn't know if you were doing grade 7 geometry or learning some fundamentals of grade 11 trig

Yes I remember very well having to stand at the chalk board at the back of our class room with several other kids writing over and over the alphabet in cursive because we had bad penmanship Which sadly is something I never really overcame.
I am predominantly left handed but can actually write better with my right hand but I'm so slow at it that I never do

Good discussion. The video does show cool technology, but the next generation of students are loosing the core lessons that have allowed things like that to be developed. We must use things like that correctly, to reinforce and to help with learning those core lessons, NOT to replace them.
I have quoted several posts here instead of posting 3 different times, hope it makes sense.

translation - Looking at the video, I remember my first teacher. She had a very beautiful handwriting.
Exactly, now they do not even teach kids how to hold a pencil in school, let along how to actually USE it.

translation...Frank. I'm not talking about owning a right and left hand. I mean, our kids are going to learn to write soon. Motor skills of the hand directly affect the development of the brain. Remember yourself, your first writing lessons.
TO MANY of today's educators are bring crippled in the classroom by administrators and so called "curriculum specialists" who are learning some VERY STRANGE ways of "teaching" in college. I retired 11 years ago, after teaching for 35, I am so concerned about the damage we are doing to the youth of our country and the world.

You cannot even use chalk in many classrooms anymore, too many kids are allergic to chalk dust.
hemmjo; my youngest daughter is beginning her 20th year as a teacher in primary school gr2 for her first 3 years and gr3 to date at the same ISD. 20 years ago when she did her year as an intern & substitute teacher the town where the ISD is located was considered a small town under 3,500 population now approaching 15,000. Still not considered a large city however the ISD is largely governed by policies of the much larger cities of the Dallas Ft. Worth metroplex.
Many of the things she has told me of the changes in the way educators are now required to coddle the students, the as she puts it ludicrously dumbed down curriculum its a wonder children can learn anything at all. She has to bid each year to retain her position, the grade she wishes to teach and other things. The administration over the school system 10 years ago became so politically charged she almost decided to chuck it all and move on but she stuck it out. Now she is considered 1 of the most senior educators at the school where she teaches which affords her some latitude. With her continuing graduate and post graduate studies she says that she is preparing herself for the eventual day to move into admin after her 30 years are completed.
