A neighbor asked if she could watch me peel and butcher some small game. She said she was a bit squeamish but appreciated seeing the process from cute fuzzy to dinner. Worms. The factory workers get a tiny fraction of the worms before it makes it to your plate, and only if you buy fillets. Some species of fish are absolutely loaded with the things. Salmon meat is generally infested, and you are basically guaranteed to be eating worms. Worms that are infectious to humans, by the way. And I'm not talking about intestinal worms, these are nematode worms that live in your flesh.

The lifecycle of these nematode worms is super interesting. The worms, when eaten, release eggs in the digestive tract. The eggs burrow through the intestinal wall and enter the bloodstream. They flow through the bloodstream until they get wedged in a capillary somewhere, then they begin to grow. In humans usually a pea sized cyst will develop around the worm. These can develop anywhere in your body, including your brain. Cooking and freezing will kill them, so the worms you're eating will at least no longer be infectious.
