I live in Nova Scotia, Canada. We have a variation of these called "donairs", which are an Americanization of the Turkish doners. It's a uniquely Nova Scotian thing. Doners are weird spicy ethnic food and I could probably choke one down if I had to. Donairs are amazing and I would disown my family for one.
I lived in Turkey for a total of three years, two different locations. LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! Doner kebab. Also Iskender Kebab. Also Adana Kebab! Best I can do here is the Akropolis in Del City, OK, a couple of miles from my house. Owner/operator is Persian, not Turkish or Greek, but does great gyros which is near enough to Doner Kebab for me. Adana Kebab is a spicy sausage cooked on a flat and relatively wide skewer, much like a knife blade. It tastes different from the others, but is still wonderful! There are (or in some cases were) some pretty good places to eat Mediterranean or Middle Eastern in the OKC Metro. I've not tried all of them, but I'm working on it!
