Sick of mixing greensand by hand? This DIY sand muller uses a 500 watt induction motor and a 60:1 worm drive reduction gearbox to drive a horizontal mixing drum made from recycled aluminium and form ply. The main spindle to support the drum is made from components used to make trailer hubs. Although I purchased some of the components new, it would be possible to make this muller from mostly second hand parts. Probably the only new item you might need is the gearbox. These are sold as NEMA 34 worm drive gearboxes and are available on Ebay. Credit for the general configuration of this sand muller must go to Luckygen1001 who featured a similar design on his YouTube channel.
My interpretation was based on a need to be able to store the muller outside but under an awning. It is likely to be exposed to some moisture hence the requirement to use galvanised steel tubing and more durable materials.
