Yup, pipe flanges and backing rings make good feet for pedestals. Prefer adding set of contact feet vs flat for stability, just me though.
My pedestal grinder scares most people, but stability is no question!
36" square of 1-1/2" steel, I cannot fathom who did it or having it a remnant instead of destined for work. 16" wheels are 3" wide, might weigh 30 pounds, wheels in pic before replacement. Horsepower unknown as yet, but is 440v 3ph 60 Hz, and relatively quiet. A tie-rod motor, maybe Baldor, Reliance, Allis, Cincinnati built this way too. Lots of inertia, spins quite a time after cutting power. Still poking around for a full size dresser, 36 grit wheel for get-down grinds and will hang a 60-80 something for HSS lathe and large drill bits.
Sitting down?
Sincerely,
Toolmaker51
