Direct mail marketing!

Hey all,
I’m running a hardware shop and I was planning to promote my business. But I didn't have an idea about it. And so I asked my friend about it and she suggested me to do it through direct mail marketing (Direct Mail Marketing | Mailing Solutions, Mail Fulfillment Services Toronto - Troi Mailing Services ) . But the problem is, since I have no experience with it, need more suggestions? Whether this would be a good option?

My first inclination is target audience, is direct mail actually going to reach their hands? Tons get tossed by whoever gets home and filters the post office deposit first.
I'll email you directly, if that's acceptable. On what I think really sets them in your sights, and then of course gets you in theirs!
The fact it seems you are brick and mortar is key. The internet is next.
