Usually there are more worms than bones. Salmon is nasty. Also these worms will infect people similarly to how they infected salmon.
Fun fact, if not properly cooked those worms will release eggs in your digestive tract, burrow through your intestinal wall, travel through your bloodstream and get lodged in a capillary. Then it starts to grow and your body forms a cyst around it. I used to love sushi. Then I worked on a device to detect worms in a fish plant.

Okay so that's one specific species of tapeworm that they just found, so probably somewhat rare? The worms I'm worried about are NOT rare. Somewhere between 75% and 90% of wild salmon will have worms in the meat, and trout isn't a lot better.

And most of the parasites that have burrowed their way into the meat of the fish will do the exact same thing to you if you eat infected fish. Similar to undercooked pork being dangerous due to tapeworms. It's super dangerous, and there are theories that these worms lodging in the brain may have been what killed Mozart.
If you cook the food it kills the worms. But you're still eating worms. If you freeze the food you supposedly kill the worms, but there have been a bunch of studies that said this isn't reliable and some survive the process.
Don't eat sushi.

I can testify to the ills of contracting gastro-intestinal parasite, acquired during a jungle survival training course back in 72. Certain parasites are not only found in meat and fish 'not sure why fish is generally not classified as meat' in some cultures, but raw plant matter of some varieties can harbor some nasty things as well. After getting out of the hospital back then I became very selective of anything I eat raw and especially of any under cooked meat My rule is 135°f in the center for a minimum of 4 minutes longer and hotter for some meats

You're totally right, and that's something I don't think about nearly enough. I believe most food borne infections come from contaminated plants. Usually animals pooping on things. Anyway it freaks me out. I grew up on what was basically a mini farm, and spent all day running around the woods gnawing on sticks. I'm certain I already have a number of parasites using my body like a Habitrail. Toxoplasmosis? Probably. Other stuff? Who knows! Is it going to bite me in the ass in 20 years? Almost certainly!

I was encouraged to eat stuff straight off the plant when I was a little kid. And I think it's too warm where you are, but here in the winter I can remember my mother breaking icicles off the gutters and giving them to me to suck on. It probably wasn't that bad. I'm sure they were only like 10% bird ****.
