some feel it is to produce Less ash and creosote, I burn mesquite almost exclusively as my fuel source, but only from trees that have been dead for several years Once in a while I will have to cut up large limbs that were broke off from storms or high winds from live trees even after a year of drying they still produce a lot of creosote but I toss them in when the fire is really hot so there is no build up just the mesquite smell coming from the chimney. I don't bother debarking but long dead trees the bark mostly sluffs off anyway
Never try to tell me it can't be done
When I have to paint I use KBS products
