This is the advanced version of an LCD dark screen fix.
If you live in humid regions, you might find LCD screens turn dark. This is often caused by the reflective layer on the back of the screen going bad. This advanced level fix is to replace the reflective layer with shiny aluminum foil or glossy white paper.
The reflective layer might be made of nitrocellulose ("gun cotton"). The smell released by the decaying sticker reminds me of decaying nitrocellulose, plus I set fire to one of the removed stickers and it burned vigorously.
