In the DRC, where almost ALL of the cobalt for lithium-ion batteries is mined there are thousnads of hand-digging miners who barely subsist by mining cobalt.
they are ecomnomic slaves because there is no other way to earn money and the governement protects and supports the multi-national companies that gain from this evil practice.

Read the book: "Cobalt Red: How the Blood of the Congo Powers Our Lives".

Sadly, every lithium-ion battery you and I buy contributes to this truly evil practice.
Reading this book made me realize that so many decisions I make in this wildly technological world have unseen effects on unseen others.

Here is a review of the book: https://medium.com/@theunhedgedcapit...d-8dabedfc5def

I'm fuzzy on this. There's an air compressor running in the background and an air hose running to the hole, but the person jumping in the hole doesn't have a regulator. I *think* that means they have the air feeding into e.g. a bucket under the water that the person can stick their head into to breathe.

The water inflow at this location must be insane to do it this way instead of using pumps to dewater the mine.

I'm thinking the soil looks like clay of some sort.
And my guess is they fill the holes with water to loosen the soil to make digging 'easier'.

I think between 2 and 3 seconds he inserts the bare hose into his mouth. I don't know how he does it but at a very low hose pressure, he probably can inflate his lungs and force exhale at the same time controlling the seal around the hose with his lips. Fighter pilots force-exhale all the time. Force-exhale means you have to push or blow hard against a positive pressure of incoming air.

I was sure the digger was going to come out of the second hole.
