    You can also do this by cutting a nut radially. The flats fit nicely in a 3 jaw chuck.

    I suggest a round device as I did, as it is easily adaptable in any situation (drill chuck, spring collet, lathe chuck 3 jaws, lathe chuck 4 jaws, etc). You can't get a perfect center with hex nuts!

    You can get surprisingly close with two spaced apart in the jaws. Bit hard in the 4-jaw though.

    NortonDommi, this device works perfectly for a plate with dependent jaws, not with independent jaws... Why would I use a giant plate to cut such a small screw, is not true? Thanks for the comment and interest!
