cutting an internal 6 spline drive

    Hi All

On the crank shaft of my 3" scale Foden, that I am currently building there are two gears that move along this shaft. They are driven on six splines. The following link to my website shows how I cut the internal gears with a modified keyway guide bush I made and a standard keyway broach.
I hope this is of interest and useful. I will also post a link to the crankshaft build in another post for those that are intrested.

Nice job on the splines. Yes those large arbor presses are invaluable. I have one about the same size as yours I believe it has somewhere around an 8 or 10 inch stroke probably weighs close to 300 lbs

    Hi Frank S
Thank you for getting in touch.
The press is not very often used but when needed it is invaluable. I also have a 25ton Hydraulic press but it dosent have the same control and feel as this press for broaching etc. A dear friend gave this to me knowing how much I liked it.
Is your the same design as I dont know the maker of mine?

The common pattern of arbor press with a round ram is 'Greenerd', never saw one unmarked. The other premier arbor presses are 'Dake' and 'Famco'.
Round rams are slightly more accurately guided, as they ride in a finished bore.
Not heaviest tonnage because narrowed pinion to rack engagement.
