What's the advantage of scribing from the inside? Also - I hear the "bacon" noise granddad taught me to listen for for a good score.

When you cut glass, you stress it on the opposite side of the scribe cut, by percussion or flame/red-hot steel rod

We had glass tubing cutters that scribed on the outside. Were much faster and esier to use.

I've got one of those for small tubing, works great, not sure how well that would work on tubing that size, though.

A guy in Venice teached me how to cut borosilicate glass pipes with a smooth edged, large rotating disc. The pipe is invisibly scratched at the circumference, then a harder scratch on just one point along the circumference makes it to break with a neat circular cut. Awesome. It is way faster and no heat is required.
