Converting 2D Florecent light to LED

Converting 2D Florecent light to LED-img_0309.jpgWe seem to get lots of specials now on LED bulbs.

Problem they are all of convectional design.

So when my 2D light decided enough is enough I went looking doe a LED to replace the florescent tube. They were extremeny expensive and entailed gutting the current light before fitting the LED tube.

So I bought 2 x 5Watt conventional LED bulbs. Deconstructed them and was left with this.

It was then is simple matter of 2 x 25mm holes through the internal base plate and some double sided tape to secure the LED carriers to the base plate. This meant that the LED.s were turned in the correct orientation of how the light is used. If I fitted bulb holders to accommodate these bulbs the LEDs would have been facing sideways.

Nice energy saving and I love the way the light is on immediately when you switch it on.

I replaced GU10s in my kitchen with LEDs of that type and were pleased with them until one evening halfway through cooking a meal one of them exploded like a gunshot and tiny glass fragments everywhere. That was the end of that meal, but at least yours are not glass covered if one fails in that way.

This is an outside light. So a plastic cover and pretty high up on the wall.

But thanks for the warning, will consider it when I do the next conversion.

I found one 5Watt to be sufficient to replace the original 22Watt in light intencity, but also found some of then do not last that long. So therefore this time I fitted 2, hopefully if one goes the other one will be one that lasts longer

This light stays on the whole night.
