About a year ago, on eBay in some country in Europe, don't recall where, there is a company that sells different versions of these.
Just the splitting cones, not the motor, as far as I recall, in several different sizes, a couple that could be used on handheld drill motors, and seemed to work extraordinarily well.
I would most likely have purchased one, but they were more then I could afford at the time.
I remember thinking that if they really do work this well, sooner or later someone here in the U.S. will start making them, or importing them and maybe then I could get one.
Also thought about showing some of the videos, (there were several videos the company made) to a machinist friend, and seeing what he thinks.

Cone splitters have been around for a very long time and there were a number of USA companies making the cones. A couple of popular ones were made to bolt onto a wheel hub with an extension so you could drive somewhere towing a trailer. Jack up your car and fit one of these things, split wood, load trailer and drive home, hopefully after removing the splitter. War chariots come to mind but no doubt totally banned by the safety police.

Shouldn't they be more popular? Maybe not the "war chariot" type that NortonDommi mentioned (although maybe!) but at least the much smaller ones I
saw in some European ebay.
I live in rural Oregon, where splitting wood, and a lot of it, too, is just something we do. Everyone has their own method, and I've about seem them all, including the ridiculously efficient mega splitters that section (buck) the log to length, that is then hydraulically shoved through a "round wedge", into many individual pieces of fire wood instantly
BUT, these cone splitters are just not used or available, as far as I know.
Why is that?
The ones I saw in the eBay were very expensive, but I don't think it necessarily has to be.
They're just a cone!
I want one! (Anybody got one? ;>)
