Wouldn't the wood just turn to compost? My wife made one out of old recycled plastic fence boards.* Made a terrible fence but they don't rot. Assembled with stainless screws and stainless wire. She's got it flat now for our move.

* to be clear, this are boards made of assorted ground up plastic waste. The idea sounded interesting so we tried a few. They absorb water and expand, not good for a fence. They're also too tough to put a nail in, even with a pneumatic gun. You have to drill and bolt.
