If your are like me and grew up on boiled coffee or have traveled to places where they make coffee 10 times the normal strength, a few grounds in your cup doesn't bother you. The wife however doesn't like grounds in the bottom of her cup.
We use the paper filters in our coffee maker and sometimes they will fold over and allow the grounds to spill into the container then wind up in the pot.
My solution to this was to cut a ring out of a 2 liter soft drink bottle then use that to hold the sides of the filter in place.
And since it has been quite a while since I have posted one of my plastic drink bottle tools here is a new one for you. It is a clear bottle so it doesn't show up well in the photos

Thanks Rick but unfortunately these turn out to be one time use.
the ring does hold the filter in place as I wanted but the extreme heat of the water deforms it so it gets tossed out each time the grounds and the filter is changed.
I cut several of them this morning to use until I find a thin piece of SS to make a more permanent retainer out of

However I'm in the espresso camp now so I don't need filters and in fact sometimes when I'd like a little caffeine boost but don't want to take the time to make a cup I'll just grab some beans, crunch them and swallow. I'm certain your better half wouldn't go for that.

I'm familiar with W Texas coffee and it wouldn't surprise me if you too had eaten hash browns that were burnt on one side, still frozen on the other and dripping with cooking oil. And don't get me started about over easy eggs.

The only time I have eaten hash browns like that was at a diner just east of Beaumont and if the eggs arrive sunny side up or over easy I'm not going to even bother saying anything I'm just going to toss a dollar on the table for the coffee and walk out I don't want my bacon so crisp that it makes bacon bits in my mouth either

The idea is sound enough and works fine the ring will hold the filter edges in place long enough to prevent the grounds from flowing over the sides but the rings will not take the heat. Making them a consumable. The diameter of the 2 ltr. soft drink bottles is perfect for my coffee maker so Eventually I will drag out a piece of 304 ss tubing that I have slice it open flatten it out and thin it down then roll it into a ring the springiness will allow for compressing slightly for insertion into the coffee maker.
most grades of SS is or can be rated food grade, and 304 or 18/18 is among the most popular for utensils or pots and pans.

How's about rolling a couple turns of SS MIG wire?

Came across a birdnest of carbon steel MIG wire on roadway. It would have really messed up a cyclist, maybe anything with a driveshaft or chain.
Lots of us have wadded up a couple feet after loading a new spool, try to wrangle a few hundred feet!
