I have had a few workbenches over the years, but have always wanted a solid old style workbench with all the clamping options. Playing around in my sketch book the last few years, with different ideas, I came up with a mix of old and new ideas that I am happy with and should suit my purposes of traditional woodworking and pattermaking. Here is a picture of my final working sketch.
The next two pictures is the wood and hardware I used.
All the joinery was mortise and tenon.
The finished bench, still needs 3 coats of a tough durathane finish.
The leg vise with modified scissor support assembly.
The Moxon vise, this vise will clamp a 20" wide panel across it's full width.
One of 2 conventional quick adjust vises.
Two pictures of the complete workbench, one with vises wide open, one with vises closed.
The complete bench comes in close to 400 lbs. and the built in clamp rack will add close to 200 lbs. in clamps. Very solid and stable. For lots more pictures, the full build is on my site at the following link.
