That sure is a small root ball. I wonder about the survival rate?

Maybe they are more interested in removing the trees with minimal disturbance to the area, than in relocating them
Never try to tell me it can't be done

And to think Daddy used to fuss at me whenever I'd get the chainsaw teeth anywhere near the dirt! If he was still around, he'd prolly have a stroke watching this.

For topical application, only. Not to be taken internally or used in com-

Do not operate heavy equipment, unless you actually know how to.

They are digging the trees for replanting. Those root balls are way too small for a trees that size, if they are planted "normally". The trick is to prune the tree to minimize water consumption to allow for roots to regrow. Also, depending on the number of trees to be planted, the site and job specifications, a surface or underground drip irrigation system can be installed to allow adequate moisture.

This is a more productive way to dig trees for transplant. However all of the issues mentioned above still exist.

Another issue with this tree spade system is the heavy wire baskets used to contain the root ball during transport.

WAY TOO MANY "landscrapers" leave those baskets in place when replanting the tree. Eventually the basket kills the tree. Same thing happens when the ball is wrapped with burlap and tied with plastic string.
