Whoa – shot right through the canopy? Wonder if those were live test dummies. Their head and necks were snapped forward hard enough to cause serious injury, under the G-force alone – let alone any possible contact with the canopy.

The jets I've been close enough to to really look at have a pair of "breakers" mounted up high on the ejection seat to pierce and deflect the canopy material before the helmet of the pilot gets close enough to be impacted. The polycarbonate of the canopy might still be in the region as pieces, but with no real structural strength left, the pilot I spoke to claimed it would feel no different than a finger tap in the top of the helmet. He said it all happens so fast you have no way of distinguishing any one part of the process, but he had no complaints from his experiences in training.
