Looks to be a non-guarded crossing with only warning signals. I can't tell if they were malfunctioning or if the driver ignored them

Last 5 seconds you can see the warning lights blinking, but this angle doesn't prove that the driver could have seen them except in his rear view.

Did he actually see the train or is he just plain stupid?

I'd take an odds on bet for the second option.

Normally, I'd think the car driver should buy a lottery ticket, but after looking at the video numerous times, I now think that would be a waste of money since he/she obviously used up a lifetime's worth of luck in that one instant.

5 girls from my high school decided to play chicken with a train by driving around the barriers. the first time they did it the train barely missed them the next time they decided to try again at night, 1 of them said she wanted no part of it, so they locked her in the trunk of the car. She was the only survivor, but it was the next morning before she was found laying unconscious along side the tracks in the ditch. Apparently on impact the trunk lid had sprung open and she was thrown clear nearly 1/4 mile from there the car wound up.

This just goes to show, you should never mess about with Train Crossings, nomatter where you are in the world. They are put there for a reason and that reason is not to play chicken.
