I had to pay for this service a few years ago, foolishly locked my keys in the car. It was $85 for the tow truck to show up with the same equipment. So now I keep a spare key in my wallet.

My daughter recently locked my grandson (nine months old) in her new car not understanding the new to her security system, she was having a meltdown and my son in law was about to bust a window, I told her stop crying and call a towing company and tell them the baby is locked in....the local towers have a special radio code call for "baby in car" and there were two trucks there in under a minute to do the no charge service.

Hats off to those guys that have a very dangerous job.

The simple solution to lock outs is to lock your car with the key. DO NOT use the door mounted lock button. I've finally convinced my wife and my daughter of this.

I own 1 vehicle with automatic door locks once you reach 5MPH they automatically lock, I would have already disabled them if not for them being tied into another equally ignorant feature the PATS (passive anti Theft system), to disable them the pats would scramble the ECM and the vehicle would never run again. So I just leave the windows down, it has a number pad to unlock the doors no key slot
