    A Cable Sheath Stripper

Even after many decades of practice, I'm not skilled at cutting through just the outer sheath of a power cable without nicking the wires inside. There are two possible solutions - more practice with the existing tool or make a new tool that requires less skill.

If you are interested, here is my new tool.

The design has evolved due to great collaboration with readers. Details can be found here.

And here is a video showing its use.

I've used this type, by Weidmuller, for many, many years, adjustable depth of cutter, cuts around and lengthwise:

It looks to be a well thought out tool. I like that it clips on to the cable making it easy to move radially or longitudinally. That cutter would be a bit hard to make in my shop but the rest seems simple enough.

You prompt me to put my own version on, it’s quite crude and only about 80% effective, I hope, in anticipation, you will appreciate the idea.

    Thanks Philip,

I never thought of using screws for cutting. Neat idea!
