I think one side is right hand thread, and the other left hand thread. My usual attack is to use a LH drill bit. They will often bind up and back the broken bit out by themselves, though not always. Then an extractor that screws in to the left, or drives straight in, and turned left and right to break it lose, then left to get it out for most normal hardware anyway.

Stop the video at .07 and you can clearly see both ends have very coarse left-hand threads take a loot at the pitch and directional differences of the nipple and the tool.
A right hand threaded tool would just tighten the nipple
