I made this for my father in 1960 and Marvs post on renaissance wax has prompted me to unearth it and clean it up a bit. It is made from a sidecar leaf spring with aluminium bolster and pommel, the handle is made of copper/brass and fibre discs, I also experimented with acid etching which did not turn out that well. It was made in a garden shed with hand tools only and a carpenters vice, I had quite a time doing this in secret before presenting it to him as a birthday present.
It is 12 inches overall and was intended as a decorative piece as I had no means of heat treatment at the time.
He was very pleased with it as he loved all things American and had at the time an Indian and a Harley Davidson.
Time to get some of that wax.
