So... I'm gonna need one of these.

Okay, found it. It's called the "Hook and Moor" and they're about $300 CAD. A little more than I was planning on spending. I might take the plunge later if I can figure out something to use it for.

Very cool little device! Looks like minimal set up. Just need to fit the rope with the right ring and make sure whatever your tying to has a large enough opening.

It is of those tools that looks very handy at first glance. Then, when you give it some thiought, you realize it could be very difficult to use when you really need it. Be way more difficult get things lined up with the wind blowing lids off trash cans, swells tossing you up an down on deck, and rain pelting you in the face.

under adverse conditions anything else will also be tricky to use.

Under adverse conditions, one needs the real skills, practiced over time, to be able to toss a loop around cleat or piling. As we rely more and more on fancy gadgets to do important tasks, we lose the real skills or often never learn them. Then when the gadget fails, as they often do, people do not have the skills required to complete the task without the gadget.

I guess you are not the target audience. What do you get the guy who has everything?
