If you clamp a small piece of stock at one end of a vise jaw, the jaw will tend to tilt unless some packing is added at the other end of the vise. This packing must be the same thickness as the stock or it won't help.
So what do you do if no such packing can be found? You can always find some thinner packing but need a way to make up the difference. That is where a Jaw Jack comes in.
