Looks like Use.com turned off the images. Let me know if you're ready for me to make the switch.
Yes, it appears they were serious about their warning. Please, proceed. Give me a heads-up when it's done.
I took advantage of their offer and downloaded all the resized, watermarked images I had stored there. Not a biggie since I had all the originals stored locally (What, me trust anybody on the interweb?). Their download was nicely organized and I'm still in the process of dissecting it and storing it locally; it will save me the trouble of having to process the originals again if I ever upload to the web again.

OK, all set. Thanks for taking one for the team with the original Photobucket debacle; I wouldn't have implemented this caching function if that whole disaster didn't happen. All your use.com images are replaced, including the ones that appeared in posts that other people made quoting your original posts.

THANK YOU VERY MUCH, JON.
I remember what a PIA it was converting from Photobucket to Use.com. The thought of doing it all again for all the posts you show in that list would bring me to my knees. I'm dead sure that, were it not for your efforts setting up the cache, I would have simply thrown up my hands and retired from the field. We all know how the absence of a picture can render a post meaningless and that would have been a shame.
I hope our readers take a lesson from this experience...NEVER trust any online photo storage medium, even one you pay for. Even if, like me, you're smart enough to keep copies of the original photos at your home/office, online storing the down-sized versions used for forum posts can lead to a debacle like we saw with Photobucket and, were it not for Jon's foresight, would have seen with use.com.
These days digital storage is dead cheap; use it wisely. I keep an external hard disk connected to my computer and use it for on-the-fly backups during the week plus a weekly general backup. Every month everything gets backed up to two 64GB thumb drives. These are stored in two separate locations in the house, one very secure and one less so but easily grabbed in case of fire. Don't trust just one thumb drive; like everything else, they can fail. Remember to store them in locations not normally searched by thieves - garage, under bathroom/kitchen sinks, etc..
