It must be a weird thought process that goes through a person's head. If I hold on for a few more seconds I might be able to recover this, but I might die. On the other hand, the second I pull this handle for the ejection seat it'll cost $1.4 billion dollars, but I'll live.

Glad the pilots survived, and also that it was not attributable to pilot error.
The US government doesn't sweat for the lost money, it's the American people hard earning tax money.
