It's an amazing technology if used correctly. Problem is the only times I've seen these being pushed is by a number of high level management at various companies. They were sold on its capabilities by professional liars--I mean salesmen and tech bros. No young people are joining the trades, and all the millwrights and other experienced people are retiring. The theory is they can put on these AR Googles (generally Microsoft Hololens) and an unskilled labourer can perform the same function as a journeyman millwright by following the onscreen instructions. VPs who have never held a wrench have all bought in hook, line and sinker. Spoiler: it won't work.

My company was pushing a Google Glass concept of this, but then Google dropped that product. Regardless, aircraft maintenance is the sole purview of the "Airframer" (i.e. Aircraft Manufacturer), because they alone "own" the intellectual property for the entire aircraft. It's not likely that older aircraft (fixed-wing or rotary) will have this technology applied to them, but all newer aircraft will most certainly arrive with it. It was a huge plus for us in the field when the manufacturer's Aircraft Wiring Diagrams started telling us where to find specific splices, junction blocks, etc. inside the airframe. Otherwise we were doing "hand-over-hand" inspections of thick wire bundles to find what we were looking for.
