When I am prototyping a new machine there are often several holes that require being a close match but do not require precision of a swiss watch in order to work just fine.
I wanted to drill 4 holes on opposite sides to 2 parts without having the measure each one this is the simplest solution there is for reasonable repeatability.
In this case I started with a piece of flat bar long enough for me to use to space off from the end of the part and turn it around to use on the opposite side by drilling a hole on the center line off set from one edge and another piece of material welded to it to serve as the edge locator
By using a small drill bit to drill just a pilot hole half the size of the final hole and leaving the part clamped to the drill press
the final diameter hole will be a pretty close match to the opposite side
