    Like you, I use 4140 in many of my tools because of the high chrome content making them almost totally rust proof. I have some tools I made over 50 years ago and they look almost good as when newly made.

    Yea I hear You
    4140 and O-1 are probably my most two favorable metals to work with, their are others but those two are my first choice.

    When I was working for a living I used a lot of A-2 because we were always sending tool steel out for hardening. Now in my home shop I am too frugal to spend the money on outside heat treating so that is why I have gone to 4140 PH and O-1. I can easily harden the O-1 with a torch and oil quench. On an emergency basis, when I was still working, we used to heat treat A-2 with a torch and allow it to quench in still air. It also works.
