At least they had plan B in the event of it going submarine mode with the scuba gear on the back or was that for some other sinister purpose

Here's something to think about. If this truck were used on land there would be a contact patch at the inner wheels, and due to deflection the outer wheels won't be carrying much of the weight of the vehicle. But in water all the wheels will be submerged roughly similarly, and will all contribute similar amounts of buoyancy. The total force will be the same to carry the total weight of the truck, but it will be moved much farther away from the center of the vehicle.

So from the perspective of the wheel bearings, bushings and control arms, is it actually harder on them to float in water than to sit on dry land?

There are two of these LARC's on the bottom of Lake Tahoe and they had large pontoons added. I would never trust that thing in the water...

One of the local legends where I live is about a man who drove his monster truck across the Tenn-Tom River just outside of Amory, MS right after the new river channel was completed. The Corps of Engineers was not amused, and the man paid a heavy fine for his little bit of fun.

The interesting thing, though, was that it was just a "typical" monster truck with four tires (instead of eight like in this video) and it floated well enough for the man to just drive across the river channel like nobody's business.
