ALWAYS keep this next to your drill press

A little tip I've been using for years that's saved my neck a few times:

I would make a comment about "Captain Obvious" but with new folks wandering into making things, maybe it's not so obvious. I must comment that I learned this myself about 60 years ago. I started learning about drill presses at age 6. Had to stand on box or stump to reach the controls on my dad's Craftsman drill press. Now it's mine, and is in the restoration queue. You can also, for some objects, use a bolt dropped through one of the slots in the drill press table, if so equipped. Or pile weights on the object. Or clamp a fence to the table. Do not think there is only one way.
