Hi, Don't know whether this is classed as a 'tool' or not but I've posted it here anyway.
Wasn't doing much recently and was looking around for something to make and having had a thick lens out of a projector or something, kicking about for some time, I decided to knock up a holder for it using an Audi suspension arm as the already half made raw material.
All I had to do was cut the end off it and do a minimal amount of machining to finish it off
Gripped the piece in the bore and turned the outside diameter to clean up.
Then filed up the rest of the o.d., and, gripped on this, bored and formed the locating groove for the glass.
Trimmed the 'lug' to approximate size using the band saw and then later hand filed to blend with o.d.
and cut the split on the milling machine
Then, with a VERY iffy grip in the four jaw chuck, turned the 3/8" thread diameter and die cut the 3/8 x 24 threads. Just got away with it by some very gingerly turning !
And, 'Robert's your mother's brother' - job done !
I've posted a short (1 minute 50 seconds) YouTube video on this, adding it to my collection of 'Handy Home Made No Cost/Low Cost Garage/Workshop Items & Tools' videos, which covers all of the above, but includes the final assembly with the lightly modified angle grinder handle.
