    I wonder if 4 of those mini V8 engines connected to bevel gears to give opposite rotation of the props wouldn't be lighter overall and more efficient

    Like the ones on the drill? It would improve the range. Probably lighter too. Those electric motors are pretty heavy.

    Yep 4.5 Hp 12,000 RPM can even get a super charger for them
    I bet 8 of them with 16 rotor blades would carry humans FAA cert might be problematic
