80 lb Power Hammer - video

Power Hammer build video (29:07) by SteelCraft

This was my first big project, and first video of this type, so don't be mad about music
    Some specs:
    Ram weight: 80Lb,
Dies are made out of 50x50x100 [mm] C45 (1045) steel, quenched in water,
    Motor: 3 phasic (380V) 1410 rpm, 1,5kW (2hp)

I put whole machine on wooden base and 22 [mm] thick rubber mat because of thin floor in my workshop. After 2 years of using, nothing bad happened.

In build video you can clearly see shaking of hammer, I simply put to much counterweight, after reduction, runs smoothly.

The only change I want to make is to mount a stronger spring.

I will watch and learn. Maybe make a video of your improvements? Even if a short one?

    A most interesting build!!!!

One suggestion though, get help - human or machinery - for handling the heavy stuff. It doesn't take much to do real damage to the flesh bags that we are as humanity. Sadly I've seen guys injured at work and recovery takes a lot of time, sometimes you don't get back to 100%.

By the way it looks like you are building up one nice home built shop!

That's a good idea, I will make one, probably during winter break

I thought the same thing after mounting my Milling machine head, small shop crane is necessary... So it will be opportunity to make new build video

how does the variable speed work?
Just friction between motor pulley and a tire. Harder you press the pedal - less friction more spin. You can change top speed by changing pressure inside tire.
I recommend to have smooth pulley without grooves which "grind" a tire during operation.

Pedal is painted with red warning strips, connected with linkage to motor arm. When you push this pedal motor is lifted and pulley is pressed into tire
