This 1962 Toyota Land Cruiser FJ40, built by cjgoode in IH8Mud.com, demonstrates how a great 4x4 ride can be built at very reasonable cost.
The biggest task lay in all of the rusted panel repair and patching to make sure there was no place for water, sand, or salt to hide. Fortunately the builder was thorough and patient, and he came equipped with two kids who were happy to lend a hand with all of the sanding and grinding.
This FJ40 was bought on eBay, and came with parts from various other FJ40's. Interestingly, the builder was able to purchase new parts with money made from selling original FJ40 parts, and it looks like the total build cost will be right around the original purchase price: $1,200.
