    2x72 Top Platen Attachment

Hi All, I took some time and made a top platen attachment for my home made 2x72 grinder. I really wanted a top platen attachment as an add on for knife making. Check out my video.

    Hope you enjoy.

    Brian.

    Nice build!

about those sparks you want ergonomic access to the flat platen so I would think carefully about turning it vertical. It may or may not work well for you. What I would suggest is a guard that can be easily installed to direct grinding sparks downward. These are simple to make and experiment with.

now here is the real problem, sparks are unpleasant, knife blades though can be deadly!!! With the current design if the blade catches in anyway it will come at you midriff. There will be nothing to stop it, the little bit of fat and muscle will do nothing for you. So unless at some future date you want to be cut in two I’d opt for a more vertical solution even if the ergonomics are screwed up for you. The other option is to develop the discipline to stand to one side. In a nut shell safety is a bigger deal than being bombarded by sparks. On slip, one catch or something else that launch’s the blade and you will have a bad day.

That's sound advice wizard. I can't count the number of times that a sharp piece of metal's been flung past me and every time I've thought "cheated death again". I also know that one day I may not be so lucky.

If you can't make it precise make it adjustable.
